Barbara B. Schuster is an Assistant Professor for the Respiratory Care Program in the Frances M. Maguire College of Nursing and Health Professions. She is a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and has a AAS Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Community College of Philadelphia, a BA in Liberal Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, and a MSEd from Gwynedd Mercy University. She has been a faculty member at GMercyU since 1984.
Prior to GMercyU, she was a supervisor and clinical educator at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (1975 - 1983). Schuster maintained a part-time staff therapist position at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for many years while employed at GMercyU to keep her skills current.
Her specialties are Acute Care, Advance Cardiac Life Support, Invasive Cardiac Monitoring, Cardiopulmonary Anatomy & Physiology and Neonatal & Pediatrics. She is a Basic Life Support (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor. Professionally, she has served on the Pennsylvania Society of Respiratory Care Board of directors in some capacity since 1985, including as vice president and/or district director for many terms over the years.
