She earned a BSN from DeSales University, an MSN in Nursing Leadership from Wilmington University, and a PhD in Nursing from Wilkes University. Her dissertation research focused on the preparation of baccalaureate nursing students to care for patients at the end of life. She is currently engaged in qualitative research into the experience of students in BSN programs who speak English as an additional language.
Dr. Sagedy worked in the (then) NeuroTrauma Surgical ICU at HUP for 14 years where she served as a preceptor, charge nurse, and member of the policy committee. She spent several years in Emergency Nursing including a few years in Nursing Leadership in the ED. This responsibility was associated with some house supervision. In the ED, she cared for adults and children and was instrumental in developing a Pediatric ED as an independent unit, writing policy and creating an orientation for new nurses. She spent several years as a school nurse, overseeing the health and safety of 1,600 students and 200 faculty and staff. Dr. Sagedy worked as a specialty care transport nurse for many years, caring for critically ill adults and children during ground transportation to a higher level of care.
In her academic career, Dr. Sagedy has taught a wide variety of courses including, Foundations of Nursing Practice, Medical/Surgical Nursing, Pharmacology, Older Adult Health, Critical Care Nursing, and Pediatric Nursing at the baccalaureate level. At the graduate level, she has taught Nursing Theory, Ethics, Statistics for Healthcare Research, and a number of DNP courses, including serving as a faculty mentor for a DNP scholarly project.
Dr. Sagedy has presented locally, regionally, and nationally and is published in a medical textbook.
As a member of the Emergency Nurses Association, Dr. Sagedy maintains a national certification in Emergency Nursing. She is also a 30+ years member of Sigma Theta Tau. Dr. Sagedy is currently the President of Region 5 of the New Jersey State Nurses Association, sitting on the Board of the NJSNA.
