Melissa Thornborough is an Instructor and the Director of Clinical Education for the Respiratory Care Program in the Frances M. Maguire College of Nursing and Health Professions, having joined the faculty at GMercyU in 2021. She is a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), an Adult Critical Care Specialist (RRT-ACCS) and a Certified Asthma Educator (AE-C).
She has worked at Jefferson Abington Hospital as a staff therapist for most of her career -- the last nine years, serving as supervisor. She is still currently on staff on an as-needed basis.
Melissa has been a member of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and Pennsylvania Society for Respiratory Care (PSRC) since 1999 and currently serves as the Eastern District Director for the PSRC.
In 2001, she was inducted into the Lambda Beta Society, the National Honor Society of Respiratory Care. In 2017, she was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Society, the National Honor Society of Adult Learners; as well as the Lambda Beta Society, the National Honor Society of Respiratory Care.
In 2022, she was inducted as a faculty member into the Alpha Eta Honor Society, the National Honor Society for Allied Health Professionals.
