Counseling Program Director Welcome
Greetings!
We are excited to welcome you to our university community and we thank you for considering the Graduate Counseling Program at Gwynedd Mercy University. We understand that choosing a graduate school is a big decision and want to assure you that our counseling faculty members are committed to providing you with the top-notch education and clinical preparation to position you for a successful career as a professional counselor.
Our counseling faculty are passionate about the field of counseling, and we approach our work with students with backgrounds of many years of professional clinical and school counseling experience. We firmly believe that now is an ideal time to pursue a career in counseling for several compelling reasons:
1. Impact Lives: As a counselor, you will support individuals through emotional, mental, and social challenges, fostering personal growth and positive change.
2. Personal Fulfillment: Counseling offers a deep sense of purpose as you contribute to others' well-being and witness their progress, which can also enhance your own empathy and emotional intelligence.
3. Diverse Applications: The field offers various specializations — such as mental health, school, career, marriage and family, and substance abuse — allowing you to find a niche that suits your interests. You'll also have the flexibility to work in settings like schools, hospitals, private practice, and community agencies.
4. High Demand: The growing awareness of mental health issues has increased the demand for counselors, ensuring a stable career with opportunities for specialization and advanced credentials.
5. Advocacy and Social Justice: Counselors have many opportunities to promote equity, to advocate for social justice, and to contribute to broader societal change.
Our program offers a flexible online format that emphasizes mentoring, expert instruction, and opportunities for involvement. As a faculty, we pride ourselves on our student-focused, strengths-based approach to supporting and working with our students. We hope that through your research and interactions with members of our community, you'll see yourself thriving in our program at Gwynedd Mercy University.
Please feel free to reach out to me personally with any questions you may have as you gather the information you need to make this choice about your graduate education. We look forward to growing and learning alongside you.
Warmly,
Dr. Walter
