GMercyU Senior Earns Sigma Beta Delta Fellowship
Senior accounting major Kyle Gresh recently earned a fellowship through Sigma Beta Delta, the business honor society. Read about his experience at GMercyU in his own words:
I grew up as the youngest of three children in a family that runs a real estate appraisal business. Being around that environment, I knew it was something I wanted to do as a career. In high school, I participated in dual enrollment classes and worked hard to graduate at the top of my class, so choosing GMercyU was a no brainer: I'd be near the family business so I could continue working and learning, and I'd be in a business department that can teach me the skills I need to be successful after graduation.
Once I earn my Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, I plan to become a M.A.I. Generally Certified Real Estate Appraiser and real estate developer that undertakes "fix and flip" and rental projects. To prepare for my career outside of the classroom, I've become an apprentice and begun working on the additional classes and experience I need to earn my state appraisal license.
Currently, I've been doing a lot inside the classroom, such as studying hard enough to be named a member of Sigma Beta Delta, the business honor society. In fact, I was able to earn a fellowship for Sigma Beta Delta for the 2017-2018 academic year, a first for GMercyU's School of Business! Earning the fellowship gave me the opportunity to reduce hours that I work during the semester, so that I can contribute more time to the organizations I am a part of on campus.
In addition to the business club and honor society, I've enjoyed tutoring students in the Academic Resource Center for accounting and computer courses. I also serve as president of the Griffin Ambassadors, who give tours to prospective students and their families, and I am a member of the Campus Hearing Board. As part of Sigma Phi Sigma, I participate in community events to raise awareness of domestic violence and provide necessities for underprivileged families.
Outside of work and school, I play the saxophone as a volunteer in the Southampton Community Band, and I enjoy traveling with my family. I'm looking forward to my May 2018 graduation, so that I can begin working as a real estate appraiser.
