GMercyU Donates Goods to Hurricane Relief
Gwynedd Mercy University's School of Graduate and Professional Studies recently teamed up with GMercyU EdD graduate Evelyn Nunez to support families devastated by Hurricane Maria.
Members of the GMercyU community donated various food items and water to Concilio El Concilio of Philadelphia, a non-profit whose mission is to cultivate the strength and resilience of children and families, improve the quality of life in the community, and maintain the Puerto Rican community's heritage, history, and culture.
Evelyn, who is the Assistant Superintendent for the Philadelphia School District, along with GMercyU's Director of Mission Integration Sister Kathleen Sullivan, RSM, and Assistant Professor and Director of GMercyU's Master's in Education & Special Education program Marianne Kaemmer, EdD delivered the goods to a warehouse in Philadelphia.
Local volunteers assembled GMercyU's donations into family care packages which will then be shipped to Puerto Rico with the help of Coca-Cola and American Airlines. Members of The Salvation Army are currently in Puerto Rico and will deliver the care packages directly to distressed residents.
"The dedication and sacrifices made by the volunteers at El Concilio were inspirational," Dr. Kaemmer said. "The GMercyU community's contributions of food and water for families in Puerto Rico is another example of how we live Mercy here on campus."
