GMercyU Business Students Participating in Nationwide Investment Competition
Gwynedd Mercy University business students are participating in a nationwide Intercollegiate Investment Competition over the next several months. The competition, co-hosted by Fordham University and Pace University, sets to promote student engagement with financial markets and encourages healthy competition between schools.
Eight members of GMercyU's Investment Club make up the University's team. Each team is assigned one trading account and must work together to build and manage a portfolio. Competitors are expected to also produce a dossier, which is not only a key part of the competition but will be a valuable addition to the student's resumes.
The top three performers will be awarded cash prizes. There is also a Best Analysis Award which will be given to the club that provides the best analysis in their portfolio, not necessarily the winning team.
The competition is just one of the many ways GMercyU students gain hands-on, real-world experience in their chosen fields.
"Participating in this competition will give GMercyU business students the opportunity to take the skills and knowledge they learn in the classroom and apply it to real-world experiences," Associate Professor of Finance Alan Harper, PhD said.
GMercyU is competing against 12 other colleges, including: Manchester Community College, The College of New Jersey, Pace University, Iona College, St. John's University, St. Francis Prep, Stony Brook University, Chapman University, Hobart and William Smith College, St. Joseph's College, Baruch University, and Fordham University.
The competition runs from November 27, 2017 to April 13, 2018 with Closing Ceremonies being held at Fordham University in Bronx, NY.
