Deanne H. D'Emilio, JD Inaugurated as Sixth President of Gwynedd Mercy University
Surrounded by hundreds of students, faculty, staff, community members, and honored guests, Deanne H. D'Emilio, JD was inaugurated as the sixth president of Gwynedd Mercy University on Friday, April 13.
Inauguration Day kicked off with a Prayer of Blessing during the Ecumenical Service, featuring a special performance from President D'Emilio's own daughter, Nia D'Emilio. From there, President D'Emilio and the Academic Procession, consisting of faculty, college delegates, and honored guests, processed to the Installment Ceremony surrounded by the cheers of the GMercyU athletic teams.
"It's an honor to share in this momentous occasion with my family, friends, and the entirety of the GMercyU community," said President D'Emilio. "What a great way to culminate my first year and really focus on what's important to us here at GMercyU: academics, community, and the mercy mission."
The Installment ceremony featured speakers officially welcoming President D'Emilio to the GMercyU community, including PA State Representative Kate Harper, former University Presidents Kathleen Owens and Linda Bevilacqua, and representatives from The Sisters of Mercy.
Leading up to the Presidential Inauguration, Gwynedd Mercy University hosted a week full of events and festivities to commemorate the inauguration of President D'Emilio. These events included raising awareness at the 11th Annual Autism Conference, packing meals for the hungry during GMercyU's Day of Service, and engaging with student presenters at the Student Research Conference.
President D'Emilio looks forward to her tenure as President and investing in a bright future for Gwynedd Mercy University for years to come.
