Sigma Phi Sigma Honor Society Inducts New Students
Gwynedd Mercy University held an induction ceremony to welcome 14 new students into Sigma Phi Sigma, GMercyU's chapter of the National Mercy Honor Society, on September 30, 2018. This special ceremony has been a part of GMercyU since 1955 and has honored many students for their impressive leadership skills and academic accomplishments.
The night kicked off with President D'Emilio, JD who gave a heartfelt, congratulatory speech to all of the inductees in front of their parents, families, and friends. She emphasized her appreciation for their diligence to demonstrate the Mercy values for which the University was founded on.
"In the words of Pope Francis, 'a little bit of Mercy makes the world less cold and more just.' If that is what a little bit of Mercy does, then I can assure you that our world is significantly warmer and more just because of the merciful hearts of you who will be inducted into Sigma Phi Sigma today," President D'Emilio said.
President of GMercyU's Sigma Phi Sigma Chapter Nicole Martin, along with Vice President Genevieve Lombardo and Associate Professor of Business School of Business and Education Ralph Hoffman also gave inspirational speeches, highlighting the significance and honor that comes with being a member of this society.
"Today, Sigma Phi Sigma members are recognized on campus as outstanding leaders with excellent academic records and a heart for service," Nicole said. "Students work together to promote the mission of the university through stimulating academic events and significant community service undertakings."
The rest of the induction ceremony was comprised of the blessing of the pins, the presentation of new and honorary members, the Sigma Phi Sigma pledge, and ended with a few closing remarks from the Director of Campus Ministry Christine Eberle.
