Nursing Students Organize Diaper Drive

Students in GMercyU's Accelerated Bachelor's of Science in Nursing program at the Philadelphia campus collected more than 4,000 diaper products for The Greater Philadelphia Diaper Bank prior to their graduation in August.

As part of the Leadership and Management in Professional Nursing capstone course, each student is required to complete a service-related project. Instead of completing individual projects, the cohort joined together. After researching, the group decided on organizing a diaper drive, with the original goal of collecting 2000 diapers.

Haley McCay served as the lead, working closely with The Greater Philadelphia Diaper Bank, while Jordan Taffel secured a large donation from Wegmans. In all, the group collected 3,378 diapers and 760 baby wipes for The Greater Philadelphia Diaper Bank, a non-profit that collects and distributes diapers to homeless shelters, food pantries, family service agencies, and faith-based organizations.

"Every student contributed above and beyond. They exceeded all expectations for this project," Assistant Professor of Nursing Nichole Butler, MSN, RN said. "I am so proud of each and every one of them."

GMercyU's ABSN program is a second-degree nursing program designed for students who wish to obtain a nursing degree while already having a bachelor's degree in another field. The program is full-time, 15-months, and 68-credits. Learn more about GMercyU's ABSN degree.
