GMercyU Hosts Second Annual 'Woke Week'
Gwynedd Mercy University is hosting its annual "Woke Week" starting on November 5, 2018. This week-long event will focus on various social justice issues in light of the current political climate and in line with the Critical Concerns of Mercy.
There are programs and events scheduled for the entire GMercyU community, including discussions around diversity and immigration as well as Suicide Prevention Training. The week will culminate with the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march, which raises awareness about sexual assault and gender violence.
The week got its name off of the popular slang term, "woke." Woke, according to Urban Dictionary, is often used instead of "awake" to reference how people should be aware of current issues.
