Future Griffin Honored by Philadelphia Phillies
Future Griffin Natasha Torres was honored at the Philadelphia Phillies National Letter of Intent Signing Night on March 4, 2020.
Natasha will major in Nursing at Gwynedd Mercy University and play Softball for the Griffins. She first heard about GMercyU unexpectedly - during a visit to Urgent Care.
"I was having a rough time because I didn't know what was going on with me. The nurse helped me through it and made me smile and laugh," Natasha said. "I asked her where she went and she said Gwynedd. I looked it up and two weeks later me and my dad went out for an Open House and I just knew it was the one."
Natasha will be the first person in her family to play a sport in college. She acknowledges the hard work and sacrifices that were made to get to this point.
"My family has seen me grow in this sport, so I think it means the world to them to see me come this far," Natasha said. "For me, it's a dream come true. I'm really excited for the softball side of things, but also excited to pursue my nursing degree," Natasha said.
The event was held for Phillies MLB Urban Youth Academy seniors who will be playing collegiate baseball and softball next year. The Phillies MLB Urban Youth Academy provides free, year-round instruction to Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) players in Philadelphia and the surrounding area. Natasha was one of five students honored.
