Allison Alejo Receives Catherine McAuley Award
Catherine McAuley, the Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, exemplified in her life the unique ability of one person, with vision and dedication, to impact society for good in a lasting and effective manner.
Catherine McAuley's personal belief that "one person can make a difference" animates all those touched by her influence as it is passed on through Mercy Institutions. To encourage this spirit of Mercy, Gwynedd Mercy University awards one graduate each year the distinguished Catherine McAuley Award in recognition of the student's spirit of service, dedication to Christian values and generosity in contribution to the good of others.
As a GMercyU Griffin, Allison Alejo has been an advocate of Mercy in all she has accomplished. As a member of Sigma Phi Sigma, she has led numerous philanthropic initiatives, including Campus Ministry's annual Christmas gift drive for Mercy Neighborhood Ministries.
Allison was a three-year participant in GMercyU's Alternative Spring Break trips and traveled to the Dominican Republic this past spring with the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions to provide medical care to underserved communities.
In addition, Allison is an active member of the Voices of Gwynedd and currently serves as its Fundraising Chair. She also served as a Griffin Ambassador and was a tutor in the Academic Resource Center.
Allison has made a lasting impact on the GMercyU Community and is the epitome of Catherine McAuley's belief that "one person can make a difference."
