GMercyU Nursing Students Volunteer at Local Senior Center
Gwynedd Mercy University students were recognized in a recent story from the Bucks County Courier Times for the volunteer work they're doing at the Bristol Township Senior Center.
The COVID-19 pandemic has left many seniors feeling isolated and alone, especially those who are not computer-savvy in a time where virtual communication is so prevalent. As a part of a new program called Senior Connect, the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging is working to help those seniors get the tools and training they need to access virtual services and connect with others.
Pilot programs are being run at the Bensalem and Bristol Township Senior Centers, where approximately 6,000 seniors are participating in the program. Students from GMercyU were tagged in to help with the program by making well-check calls to seniors at home and also with assisting with Senior Connect exercise programs.
As a part of the Senior Connect exercise program, GMercyU nursing students Geramy Perriman, Madison Taylor, and Iva Machaqueiro traveled to the Bristol Township Senior Center to work with residents on various yoga poses and exercises.
Thanks to the Senior Connect program and their countless volunteers, seniors are utilizing their newfound technology skills to stay connected with their friends and families during the pandemic.
