GMercyU Updates Masking Policy

On Tuesday, March 15, President Deanne H. D'Emilio, JD announced an update to the University's masking policy.

"Given GMercyU's very high vaccination rate, low on-campus infection rate, declining infection rates in the region, and updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Montgomery County Office of Public Health, we plan to remove the requirement to wear a mask while indoors, effective Saturday, March 19," said D'Emilio. "We selected this date out of an abundance of caution, waiting five days after our return from Spring Break to officially go mask-optional. Doing so will allow us to monitor any potential spike in on-campus cases, and make adjustments to our safety protocols if needed."

All members of the GMercyU community must still carry a mask at all times, out of respect for those on campus who may be at higher risk and choose to continue to wear a mask or ask that others do so in their classrooms or offices. And, to protect our students living in the residence halls, GMercyU will still require all non-resident guests to provide proof of vaccination.

After March 18, GMercyU will no longer require unvaccinated community members to provide weekly proof of a negative test. Anyone experiencing symptoms must report them to healthandwellnessctr@gmercyu.edu (students) or covid19@gmercyu.edu (employees) immediately.

"Thanks to the efforts of our campus community, our safety protocols have been very effective in keeping campus safe and open since the fall.
