GMercyU to Host AEC "Play for Joey" Games on January 11
As part of a conference-wide initiative, GMercyU will take part in the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) "Play for Joey" games against Marywood University on January 11. The games will take place at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. respectively.
The AEC "Play for Joey" games were created in honor of Marywood University alum Joey Monaghan, who passed away in September 2022 from cancer.
GMercyU's "Play for Joey" contests will also serve as "white-out" games presented by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as a way to kick-off the spring semester.
About Joey Monaghan
Monaghan graduated from Marywood University in 2021, making a great impact on the campus community. Upon graduating, Monaghan continued to display his passion for basketball by coaching an AAU team and serving as a ticket sales manager for the Philadelphia 76ers.
At each "Play for Joey" event, donations will be collected to create a Pennsbury High School scholarship fund in his name. In the future, the scholarship fund will be presented to one graduating senior at his high school alma mater.
Donations can be made at the admissions table or by using the AEC Venmo account.
