Women's Basketball to Host AEC Semi-Final Match
By Greg Gornick
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Commissioner Jessica Huntley, has officially released the seeding for the upcoming 2022-2023 AEC Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. Gwynedd Mercy University’s 14-point (82-68) victory over Cabrini University earned the Griffins the #2 seed and a Wednesday, February 22, home semifinal against Cabrini University.
Gwynedd Mercy University went 8-4 in conference play, a game better than they fared in 2021-2022 when the same starting five led the Griffins to an AEC Championship appearance opposite Immaculata University. The Griffins were 1-1 against the Mighty Macs with each side winning the road game. Gwynedd Mercy University also split their AEC series with the Cabrini Cavaliers and lost both meetings with the Marymount Saints while sweeping the Marywood Pacers, the Neumann Knights, and Centenary University.
In conference play, the Griffins were led by their senior captains - guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) and senior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) - the former averaged a team-high 21.2 points per game (PPG) while grabbing 4.0 rebounds (RPG) and handing out 2.2 assists (APG), while the latter assumed a point-forward role and filled it nicely with 14.4 PPG, 10.8 RPG, and a team-high 4.0 APG. As usual, junior guard Lynzie Eggers (Turnersville, N.J.) was a quality third with 12.8 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and 2.1 assists per game.
The Griffins will host the Cabrini Cavaliers at home on Wednesday February 22 at 7 p.m. Watch the live stream and live stats. Visit gwyneddathletics.com for more information.
