GMercyU & President D’Emilio Featured on 6ABC News for Legacy of Visionary Women
Gwynedd Mercy University and President Deanne H. D’Emilio, JD were featured on 6ABC as part of its Women’s History Month celebration.
6ABC reporter Alyana Gomez sat down with President D’Emilio to talk about GMercyU’s rich 75-year history in empowering and teaching young women – and men. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1948, GMercyU has only ever been led by women. President D’Emilio is the sixth woman to lead the co-ed institution.
“It’s an honor for me to be in this role and I feel every day the inspiration of the women who came before me,” shared President D’Emilio with 6ABC.
President D’Emilio also talked about the experience of raising a family while working and gave advice to the next generation of women leaders.
"You never know what opportunities are going to present themselves to you and you might have never dreamed of that opportunity. What's important are the skills that you learned along the way because I didn't train to be a university president, but here I am," said President D’Emilio, who left her career as an attorney to become a faculty member, then dean and provost in higher education, before taking the role as President at GMercyU in 2017..
The segment was shared on the 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. news broadcasts on Wednesday, March 20. Read the whole story and watch the interview here.
