Griffin Baseball Recognized with 2023-2024 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

Yesterday, Wednesday, July 24, Gwynedd Mercy University was one of more than 470 collegiate baseball programs to be recognized with a 2023-2024 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award – Presented by Sports Attack. The Griffins combined for a 3.39 team grade point average (GPA) during the 2023-2024 academic year, qualifying them for the honor; in order to be recognized with a ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award programs must post a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the given academic year.
The ABCA has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award. Gwynedd Mercy University earns is second straight ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award under Head Coach Joe Brooks. The Griffins placed two student-athletes – sophomore Chris Nodeland (Hamilton, N.J.) and junior Ricky Templeton (West Deptford, N.J.) - on the 2023-2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Academic All-District Team and inducted another two – seniors Quin Dye (Conshohocken, Pa.) and Mike Zayas-Bazan (Bogota, N.J.) – to Chi Alpha Sigma; the National College Athlete Honor Society. They had 16 student-athletes earn recognition on the Fall 2023 Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Academic Honor Roll with a 3.42 semester GPA and 17 student-athletes on the Spring 2024 Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Academic Honor Roll with a 3.35 semester GPA. In all, 23 members of the Gwynedd Mercy University baseball team were honored on the 2023-2024 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) All-Academic Team.
