Social Work Program Coordinator Featured on Podcast
Janice Nuss, DSW, LCSW, Associate Professor, BSW Program Director and Director of Field Education, was recently featured on a podcast presented by the European Association of Schools of Social Work (EASSW).
Dr. Nuss first became involved with the EASSW through her research on the infusion of global learning into social work education. Through her research with international colleagues, Dr. Nuss proposed a framework for global learning in social work education that was published in the Journal of Social Work Education. Dr. Richard Ingram, Co-Editor in Chief of Social Work Education: The International Journal, is a member of EASSW and invited Dr. Nuss to join in a discussion surrounding the similarities and differences in social work education across the globe.
Prior to the podcast episode, Dr. Nuss engaged in conversation with Dr. Ingram about the similarities and differences between the United States and Scotland’s approach to social work education. In that conversation, they discovered that while the profession’s values remain consistent, the method of implementation of social work curriculum varied.
“My involvement in the podcast followed the EASSW discussion and outlined the components of the framework for global learning. A framework such as this, as well as ongoing conversations about international social work education, may create new opportunities for us to enhance our social work curricula with a global human rights lens,” said Dr. Nuss.
Dr. Nuss found it fascinating to listen and learn about the impact of accreditation and professional certification on social work curriculum in England, Scotland, and Wales, as discussed by her EASSW colleagues in the episode.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience! Dr. Ingram was warm and engaging. I am happy that we have an international journal of social work education. It is so important for us to learn from one another about how social workers can address societal challenges and educate future social workers across the globe. I certainly learned a lot from my EASSW colleagues on the podcast,” Dr. Nuss shared.
