I chose to go to Gwynedd Mercy University because I loved the size of the student body and it was well known for nursing, which I originally had pursued. As my student career progressed, I changed my major to business administration and graduated in 2009 with my bachelor's degree.
I was able to thrive in all of my classes because of the small class sizes - the professors really know their students. They were able to push me and hold me accountable and above all, they knew all of their students by their first name. That was the reason why I chose GMercyU in the first place.
There are a few professors who I will never forget. One was Professor Ron Bruce, who was my accounting professor. He broke down the lessons in a way that never made me feel overwhelmed. He took the time to thoroughly explain the why's and how's. I was amazed at how simple he made a daunting subject. He even had his own text book- which he let the class have for free. Best of all he had a sense of humor. The other was my finance professor. He was by far the hardest professor I ever encountered. He pushed the class and passing was no easy feat but I respected him. He knew what he was teaching and he was hard because he wanted us to excel.
I lived on campus and loved every moment of it. That is how I met my life-long best friends.
All of our social events were fun; we would have things like ice cream socials and movie nights. I always enjoyed when the staff would cook and serve us breakfast during finals. The dances were a blast. My friends and I would go all out for the Halloween dance - we even won a few costume contests.
I was also a member of the Voices of Gwynedd and the judicial appeals board. It helped me network and grow stronger bonds with the campus community. It gave me a sense of camaraderie. In some situations it widened my perspective, learning that things are not always a simple solution.
Throughout high school and until this year, I worked at Giant Food Store, more than 14 years. I advanced my way up to Customer Operations Manager where I was responsible for 100 employees. I oversaw human resources, audit/licenses, accounting, and customer relations departments. I ended my career there to pursue a more family-friendly schedule. It was a hard decision but it was the best decision I've ever made. I've never been happier than I am now. I am part of the Round Table Real Estate Team at the West Chester Keller Williams office. We are a young, fun-loving group of agents who have are track to sell 110 houses this year (And this is our first year).
To this day, words of previous professors echo in my business decisions. I always feel that I have an advantage. I have a great business foundation, which helps me to continuously advance in my career. Most importantly, I understand that family is everything and money isn't the priority. I believe that I got that lesson from the bonds that I developed in my social and academic at GMercyU.
