Criminal Justice 2019
At GMercyU, you are not just a number. Your teachers know you and they truly care about their students.
As a Perkiomen Valley High School student, Danielle discovered GMercyU when searching for colleges close to enough to commute. She decided to pursue Criminal Justice for its breadth of career opportunities. "It provides you with a lot of different avenues and career paths,” she said.
Danielle graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice minor in Psychology. She loved the tight-knit community of her program.
Danielle was also a member of the Criminal Justice and Psychology honor societies, and also Best Buddies. We would always refer to ourselves as the ‘CJ Family’ and that is really what it felt like. All of the professors within the CJ department are incredible. The professors have backgrounds in various fields of criminal justice, so hearing their stories was always an added bonus to the curriculum.
Internship Experience
Danielle completed an internship at Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center in East Norriton, Pa. Mission Kids is an organization that provides services and advocacy to victims and families in response to allegations of child abuse. In her role, Danielle sat in on live forensics interviews, assisted family advocates in family meetings, attended court hearings, and completed two trauma related training courses.
“Mission Kids provides a much-needed safe space for victims and families to talk about complex issues. They provide an inviting space where kids can go instead of having to be subjected to traditional interview rooms at a police department. The work that Mission Kids does is not easy but knowing that you can be a safe place for kids to come to and confide in you is very rewarding,” Danielle said.
Why GMercyU?
“GMercyU is a great environment to be in. GMercyU prepared me to be successful in all areas of my life. Even now that I graduated, I will still use GMercyU as a resource and the staff is willing to still go above and beyond to help me. While my path after GMercyU is ever-changing, I will never regret my time spent there or my choice in major,” Danielle said.
Post-Graduation
Until the start of the pandemic, Danielle worked for Einstein Hospital’s Multi-Specialty Offices and Family Practices for five years. She then transitioned to working at a cyber security company for two years.
“As of November 2022, I decided I wanted to try something new and received my real estate license in March of 2023,” Danielle said. She recently secured a position with Daryl Tillman Realty group, based in Wyomissing, Pa. and lives and works in Montgomery County.
“While real estate is a little different from my Criminal Justice major, all of my experiences and education have prepared me for this new path,” Danielle shared.
In March 2023, Danielle was featured in an article on Yahoo! News on her new position.
