Delaney Mitchell
Social Work 2024
Delaney Mitchell graduated from Quakertown Community High School and attended Bucks County Community College (BCCC) to earn her associate’s degree in Social Work. Wanting to continue her education, GMercyU she attended an Open House at GMercyU and the rest is history.
When I got here, I instantly knew that it was the school for me. I really felt at home here and was excited about the different opportunities that were offered through the Social Work program.
Real-World Experiences
“GMercyU is great because it offers a wide variety of community engagement and immersive experiences,” Delaney said of the many resume-building experiences she’s had so far.
On campus, Delaney serves as the Media Manager for the Social Work and Psychology (SWAP) Club and attends Public Health Club meetings when time allows. She also works as a Peer Mentor within the Integrated Studies program and will be a Residence Assistant (RA) starting in fall 2023.
Delaney also engages in service opportunities. In spring 2023, Delaney went to Jamaica with her Global Outreach class to volunteer within the Mustard Seed Community, where she worked with people with intellectual and physical disabilities.
“It was a real partnership and I learned so much from each and every person we met. It was an incredible experience and I’m hoping to go back next year,” she said.
Also in spring 2023, Delaney assisted in facilitating a suicide awareness and prevention event on campus in collaboration with Montgomery County’s Access Services to discuss suicide within the community.
Delaney is currently working with the Korean American Association of Greater Philadelphia (KAAGP), where she’s volunteered to run voter registration tables at ASSI Plaza and designed an activity for elderly Korean immigrants to help them learn English.
What She Loves About GMercyU’s Social Work Program
“My favorite thing about GMercyU has been my Social Work professors. They genuinely care about my well-being, and they know how stressful college can be. They’ve always been there to support me and I feel really lucky to have them throughout this journey,” said Delaney
Delaney has absolutely loved her experience in the Social Work program and is thankful for the opportunities that have been provided to her.
I’m super passionate about Social Work and this program has only reinforced my love for this work. Dr. Nuss, Dr. Luquet, and so many others have worked really hard to make this program the best it possibly can be.
Starting in fall 2023, Delaney will be interning with Shared Support, a local social services organization.
Post-Graduation Plans
After graduating, Delaney began pursuing her Master of Social Work degree at Bryn Mawr. Thanks to GMercyU's BSW degree's advanced standing in CSWE’s master’s degree programs, Delaney will be able to obtain her master’s degree in just one year instead of two. Learn more about that here.
