I was first introduced to Gwynedd Mercy University when Paul Murphy, the baseball coach, showed interest in me. Honestly, I did not have too much interest in attending GMercyU since I came from a small high school and I was not sure if I was interested in the similar experience. That all changed when I came on a tour and interviewed for the Dean’s Scholarship.
Suddenly, I fell in love with the campus and all of the people involved. When I was making my decision, having the opportunity to continue doing what I love, playing baseball, while receiving a great education was very enticing.
After being at GMercyU for three years now, two words come to mind: Family and Opportunity.
From the student body, to the classroom and faculty and the baseball team, I feel like I am part of a family. All of my professors know my name and I feel like I have a personal relationship with them.
Opportunity is another word that comes to mind when I think of to describe GMercyU. There is so much to get involved with, and I have learned that it is what you do with your opportunity that shapes your future after GMercyU. For me, the business school offers an undergraduate CPA track accounting major that allows you to receive all 150 credits that you need to be able to sit for the CPA in your undergraduate studies. This is an extraordinary opportunity that is unique to GMercyU.
During my junior year, I was fortunate enough to earn an internship at Resnick Amsterdam Leshner, PC in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania which meant I had to leave the baseball team but the chance to network with industry professionals and learn first-hand was priceless.
I had a job lined up at Ernst & Young after graduation and started there the following fall. I also passed the CPA exam just six months after graduation, a testament to the accounting program at GMercyU.
