GMercyU's small class sizes allow you to be able to focus in class and have the opportunity to ask questions. It also helps build bonds with your classmates, which helps form study groups.

A graduate of North Penn High School, Kristin Varilla transferred to GMercyU for her sophomore year.
“When I was looking into transferring, the fact that I was able to commute, play lacrosse, and major in nursing were huge selling points,” Kristin said.
As a young child, Kristin found herself in the company of nurses who made an impact on her when she was sick. She loved science courses growing up and knew she wanted a career helping people.
“When looking at what I wanted to do, nursing was the best fit for all my interests, and it allows me to give back to the nurses who gave so much to me,” Kristin said.
Experience in the Nursing Program
“I have had a wonderful experience in the nursing program. All the professors are amazing and willing to help,” Kristin said.
Kristin has particularly enjoyed her NUR 317 class, which focuses on pediatrics and maternity.
“I always knew I was interested in those two fields, so it was awesome to take that class and enjoy it as much as I did,” Kristin said.
Clinical Experience
During her time at GMercyU so far, Kristin has completed several clinicals at a variety of hospitals.
“In clinical, we get to give out meds with our professor, take vital signs on our patients, and help them with their daily activities. We also get to follow the nurses around and learn from them what the day-to-day is like,” Kristin said.
Kristin's biggest takeaway from these experiences has been that you get out of it what you put in. "The more you reach out to learn at clinical and in your externships, the more you will learn and the better off you will be moving forward in your school and career,” she said.
In summer 2023, Kristin plans to complete a senior nurse externship at Einstein Montgomery where she will be paired with a nurse and assist with all patients.
Why GMercyU?
“I would recommend GMercyU because it has a small, beautiful campus where student success is the center of attention. Everyone you meet here at GMercyU wants you to succeed and that isn’t something you see everywhere,” Kristin said.
Post-Graduation Plans
Kristin’s dream job is to work in a Labor and Delivery unit. After completing her labor and delivery clinical, she knew it was what she was meant to do.
