Mackenzie Guerin graduated from Council Rock High School in 2016 and first heard about GMercyU through a friend. When she started at GMercyU, Mackenzie was originally a Nursing major, but made the switch to Psychology.
On campus, Mackenzie was a member of the Psi Chi Honor Society in Psychology and was on the Dean’s list.
Experience in Psychology
“I absolutely loved my experience in GMercyU’s Psychology program. All of the professors were extremely nice, caring, and really took the time to get to know you. The classes were very interesting and it felt like a close-knit family. Everyone knew other and supported one another,” Mackenzie said.
Some of Mackenzie’s favorite professors were Dr. Becky Gullan, Dr. John Gunn, and Stephanie Fratantaro. She said “they were always there to help if needed and it felt like such a nice little community.”
“I chose Psychology because I’m interested in learning about how the mind works and why people do what they do. I am also extremely passionate about mental health and knew I wanted to go to graduate school to become a therapist or counselor so I could help people,” Mackenzie shared.
During fall 2022, Mackenzie completed an internship with Dr. Gunn and Dr. Patrick McGrain where she completed research on suicide notes. Mackenzie and her partner Brielle conducted the research for the duration of the semester and presented at the Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) Conference in March 2023.
“If you want small class sizes and to learn from teachers who are passionate and caring, then this is the right school for you,” Mackenzie said.
Post-Graduation
Mackenzie graduated from GMercyU with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in December 2022. She is currently enrolled in GMercyU’s Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and is expeted to graduate in December 2024. After graduating with her master’s, Mackenzie’s dream job is to be a therapist and open her own practice.
