Current Position: Mother-Baby/Postpartum Unit Nurse at Reading Hospital
I truly feel the education I received at GMercyU lead me to where I am today, and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Journey to GMercyU
Madison Weand attended Boyertown Senior High School and graduated in 2017. After touring multiple local universities, Madison knew that GMercyU was the right fit for her during her junior year at Boyertown.
“My first impression of GMercyU was that the faculty was very welcoming, and the campus was beautiful. I knew the education I would receive at GMercyU would be exactly what I needed to be successful,” Madison said.
Experience in the Nursing Program
As a Bachelor of Science in Nursing major, Madison made infinite positive memories that she will have forever. She expressed her gratitude for each of her professors that made an impact on her education.
“Dr. Shuman, my advisor and mentor throughout my college career, supported me and pushed me to never give up when things got tough. She spent several hours per week reviewing material with me in classes that I was struggling in, ensuring I would pass my last year of nursing school during the pandemic,” Madison said.
Post-Graduation
Madison had always known she wanted to care for children. Through GMercyU, she was accepted into the Dedicated Education Unit to shadow a Mother Baby RN at Einstein Montgomery Hospital.
The opportunity to have that experience allowed me to be confident in my choice of pursuing this specialty.
After several interviews, Madison earned a position at Reading Hospital on the Mother-Baby/Postpartum Unit.
“Becoming a mother baby nurse has fulfilled my dream of caring for little ones. Another part of being a mother baby nurse that I love is educating new parents on how to care for their babies and themselves through this new stage of their life. Having the privilege to be the emotional and physical support for these women through such a vulnerable part of their life is extremely rewarding,” Madison said.
