After serving in the United States Air Force, Richard Ushka needed a safe place to call home where he would have the support he needed. Ushka chose Gwynedd Mercy University for its small class sizes, comprehensive psychology program and similar values, something he doesn’t take lightly.
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have received a college education from an institution dedicated to mercy and justice in the local and global community.
Ushka wanted to continue his service to society by creating a place on campus where veterans like himself could join together. The Student Veterans Association has since been a reliable resource and outlet for veterans and their families for not just support and networking among themselves, but a way to raise awareness on campus of the issues veterans face.
It is really important as a veteran to have an organization dedicated to helping veterans on campus succeed in their academic, professional and personal lives. I am proud that Gwynedd Mercy University is committed to providing a supportive environment for the student veterans across the campuses.
