My career goal is to become an ethical hacker and stay on top of, and be a part of, the most cutting-edge technology the field has to offer.
I am majoring in Computer Information Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity. My father inspired me to pursue this major because he majored in Cybersecurity for his master’s degree and enjoyed making a career of it.
My CIS professors — Dr. Cindy Casey, Professor Greg Starynski, and [adjunct] Professor Ebersole — have a ton of experience in the field and are happy to help students learn at their own pace. They make the classes engaging and fun.
So far, I’d say I’ve especially enjoyed Dr. Casey’s Intro to Artificial Intelligence class. She is a great professor and truly cares about her students. My favorite project has been using AI to determine whether a picture was real or computer-generated.
Beyond the Classroom
I am a part of NSLS (The National Society of Leadership and Success). The NSLS helps GMercyU students excel in academics and leadership so that they are ready to lead others in the future and be a part of something bigger than themselves. The NSLS has chapters all throughout the country and an online chapter. We participate in online seminars, and we try to develop skills that are necessary in not just our careers but for the benefit of the community at large.
I also plan to intern with Dr. Casey next semester, and I’m currently applying for summer internships.
Career Goals
My career goal is to become an ethical hacker and stay on top of, and be a part of, the most cutting-edge technology the field has to offer.
An ethical hacker, also known as a white-hat hacker, is a cybersecurity professional who uses hacking techniques to identify and fix vulnerabilities in computer systems, networks, or applications. Unlike malicious hackers, ethical hackers are authorized by organizations to conduct security assessments and improve defenses against cyberattacks. Their goal is to enhance security and prevent illegal or harmful hacking activities.
I think this path will enable me to enjoy my career and feel fulfilled and excited to go to work every day.
