I love that my job is different every day. I also love the connections I make with the people that I supervise. It’s really nice to be able to connect through conversations with people from all different backgrounds.
Experience in GMercyU’s Criminal Justice Program
I truly enjoyed my four years at GMercyU. I built great relationships and learned so much about Criminal Justice.
I chose GMercyU for a couple of reasons. I heard amazing things about the Criminal Justice Program. I had some friends and family who were in the program and spoke so highly of it.
The second reason was the professors. GMercyU’s Criminal Justice professors came from different walks of life. They're highly educated and qualified professors who have worked in the field and have years of experience, which they shared with students.
The thing that stood out the most about the program is that from the professors down to the students, everyone in the Criminal Justice Program was treated as if we were all in one big family. The professors connected with the students and got to know each one individually. Everyone was comfortable with each other, which made for an amazing learning environment. Every class, I walked out with knowledge that I’ve taken into work with me now.
Outside of the classroom, I was a part of the Griffin Student Leadership Program, The Gwynedd Mercy University Hearing Board, and I was a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma National Honor Society. I also worked throughout most of my four years at GMercyU.
Post-Graduate Path
Criminal Justice always spoke to me. I always wanted to be able to help the community, and in my eyes, one of the best ways to do that was to work in the field of Criminal Justice.
While at GMercyU, I completed two internships – one with the Clerk of Courts in Montgomery County during my sophomore year, and one with the Montgomery County Adult Probation and Parole Department during the summer before my senior year.
After graduation, I knew I wanted to become an Adult Probation Officer. I received a call from the Montgomery County Adult Probation and Parole Department that summer for an interview, and I was offered a position. I truly believe the internship is the main reason I was able to secure a full-time offer. I was able to show my work ethic and value to the department.
I am still with the department as an Adult Probation and Parole Officer, and I love that my job is different every day. I also love the connections I make with the people that I supervise. It’s really nice to be able to connect through conversations with people from all different backgrounds.
