I would recommend GMercyU to anyone looking for a small-knit community where you can build relationships with professors and others on campus. I have always attended smaller schools, and being here is the perfect fit for me.
Zoe Brown is a 2020 graduate of Calvary Christian Academy, a small private school outside of Philadelphia, Pa. Her father and grandmother (shown below) are GMercyU alumni.
At GMercyU, Zoe is a member of the several clubs and organizations. She currently serves as Treasurer of the Social Work and Psychology Club (SWAP) and is member of the Black Student Union (BSU). Zoe is also a Student Advancement Ambassador, where she works with the University Advancement team on donations and communicates with alumni for support.
"So far, my favorite part about GMercyU is the campus," Zoe said. "It’s beautiful and easy to navigate."
Experience in the Psychology Program
Zoe is currently a sophomore in the Psychology program, and she has had a great experience so far. Professor Gunn and Dr. Gullan are two faculty members who’ve had an impact on Zoe’s experience in the program. She’s had the pleasure of having Professor Gunn for the last three semesters, and Dr. Gullan has proven to be a helpful ally and advisor in Zoe’s transition to the program.
Sister Kathleen Sullivan is another one of Zoe’s favorite professors. Sister Kathleen taught Zoe in a "Happy and Healthy" seminar. "She was very kind, and her class was very eye opening about the different health disparities amongst communities," Zoe shared.
For her Developmental Psychology class, Zoe completed a research paper focused on the topic of child abuse, the trauma that follows as a result, and how it affects a child’s development. Zoe picked this topic because her hope is to work with children, so she found child abuse to be an important discussion. “Hearing about the types of abuse they face and how detrimental they can be in the future inspires me to work towards preventing it in any way I can,” Zoe said.
She looks forward to performing research for the annual University Research Conference.
Post-Graduation Plans
While graduation is still a couple years away for Zoe, one of her goals is to attend graduate school. "My dream job is working to help kids, just helping children in any way that I can. They are a vulnerable population that need to be protected, and I would like to be a part of it," she said.
