My favorite part about GMercyU was the friendships that were made from all of the different events that were held so all majors could come together. That was very welcoming and created the perfect environment for a college student.
Zoey Bethel graduated from Abington Senior High School in 2016. At the time, she knew she wanted to be in a helping profession and attend a Mercy school.
On campus, Zoey served as the Vice President of the Social Work and Psychology Club (SWAP). She was also a member of the Black Student Union.
Experience in the Social Work Program
"During my time in the Social Work program, I have truly felt what it is like to be supported and have a great sense of understanding. The relationships I've made will truly last a lifetime," Zoey said.
"I would suggest GMercyU to a prospective Social Work student because of the togetherness that the program gives, as well as the different outlook that the program allows you to see of the Social Work profession. It's not just about therapy. There are many levels to the profession," Zoey said.
Internship Experience
During her senior year, Zoey completed an internship at Garden Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Willow Grove, Pa. In her role, she oversaw the short-term residents that entered the facility by being the first person they came in contact with, and making sure they had everything they needed. She also oversaw that their care plan was up-to-date as well as their assessments.
Zoey scheduled transportation home or skilled home care and ordered any necessary equipment they may have needed. She also assisted residents who needed guidance with insurance or filling out important documents.
Post-Graduation
After graduating in May 2022, Zoey began working at Aspire Family and Child Services as a Behavioral Health Therapist. In 2023 Zoey obtained her master's in Social Work degree. She now works as a Transitional Care Social Worker.
